FAQ

What is Acupuncture?
1.   How does Acupuncture work??
Imagine you fell and got a cut on your leg. It may bleed for a while but your body will most likely start its natural healing process. You can do many things to help it heal better but your body has the ultimate power to heal on its own. In the same manner, Acupuncture treatment uses the body’s natural healing ability already embedded in you. It helps the body focus on the areas of illness and fasten the process of healing. Acupuncture points are carefully selected, inserted, manipulated, and taken out with certain orders to bring out therapeutic results.

2.  Is Acupuncture safe?
Yes. All needles are only inserted in selected acupuncture points. Most Acupuncture points are safe to be needled to a certain depth.

3.  Does it hurt?
No. Patients may feel a slight pinch upon insertion of the needles, but most likely won’t feel pain. Researches show that thickness of 1 hypodermic needle is as thick as 40 acupuncture needles together.

4.  What are the functions of the needles?
Usually the needles work together as a treatment protocol to treat the symptoms. However, it is also used to bring out therapeutic benefits such as to relax muscles, bring more red and white blood
cells to the injured area, decrease inflammation, increase range of motion, stimulate the nerves to decrease pain or increase sensation & promote circulation.

5.  What to expect before the treatment?
[ Initial Consultation ] At the initial consultation, the practitioner will take time to ask various questions, perform basic physical exam, pulse and tongue diagnosis to make an accurate diagnosis based on Oriental Medicine. By taking this time, the practitioner will be able to explain the cause of the symptoms and discuss treatment plans and goals. As every patient’s physical and mental condition is different, at least 6 treatments would be needed initially to better understand the patient’s body response to the treatment.

[ Acupuncture Treatment ] The numbers of needles used and the time of the treatment may vary depending on the patient’s condition. On an average 10~30 acupuncture needles are inserted for 15 minutes for 1 acupuncture session. Patients will be getting acupuncture 2-3 times/week during the first 6 times according to the treatment plan.
